Anti-spam and escalation

Rules over what members write — floods, repeats, the same message in several channels, mass mentions, invites, links — and warnings that add up to the next sanction.

Do this on my dashboard

Anti-spam works beside the honeypot and the scam-picture filter. Each rule watches what members write; when one trips, what tripped it is deleted, then the rule's action follows. Every sanction it hands out is a case in the sanction record, with Anti-spam as its origin.

The rules

RuleTrips whenDefault action
FloodToo many messages too fast (6 in 5 seconds).Time out
Repeated messagesThe same message over and over (4 times in 30 seconds).Delete only
Same message in several channelsOne message pasted in several channels at once (3 channels in 20 seconds), the mark of a raid or a hacked account.Time out
Mass mentionsMore than 5 mentions in one message.Time out
Invites to other serversA Discord invite to another server. Invites to your own server are fine.Delete only
LinksAny link outside the sites you allow. Off by default. Discord's own links and GIF sites are always fine.Delete only

Every number can be changed. The actions are Delete only, Warn, Time out (for the length you choose, 10 minutes by default), Kick and Ban. A member who trips a rule again and again in one burst is sanctioned once, not once per message.

Repeats are compared without case, spacing or invisible characters, so FREE nitro and free nitro are the same message.

Who is never checked

Bots, the server owner, administrators, members with Manage Messages, your staff roles (from the Roles page), and the roles and channels you exempt.

Set it up

In Moderation → Anti-spam, turn anti-spam on, adjust the rules and save. The bot needs Manage Messages to delete, and the permission of each action (Timeout Members, Kick Members, Ban Members); without it, that action only deletes, and the page says so.

Escalation

Premium

Escalation is part of Premium.

Warnings add up. You set steps — for example 3 warnings → 1-hour timeout, 5 warnings → kick — and a window, such as 30 days. When a warning brings a member to a step's count within the window, the bot applies that step's sanction, recorded with Escalation as its origin.

  • Up to 5 steps: timeout, kick, temporary ban or ban, with a length for the timed ones.
  • Each step acts once, when its count is reached.
  • Warnings from every source count, anti-spam's included. A cancelled warning no longer counts.
